Stability / Transparency It’s pretty hard to tell how stable the plank chains are right now. Would be nice to have some kind of indicator showing when a plank is properly connected to a branch or another plank. Maybe also show a small “stability %” somewhere when looking at a chain, just to give a clearer sense of how solid it is.
Ledge Grab Some sort of ledge-grab or “save” when you just barely slide off a branch would go a long way. It happens a lot, and it’s one of those small frustrations that could easily be fixed.
Plank Upgrades Would be cool if the plank upgrades affected width as well as length. Also, infinite upgrades in general would be fun, doesn’t have to be crazy, but just something that lets you keep progressing.
Movement Sprinting feels like an obvious addition, just a simple speed boost to make getting around faster. Jumping from high up to the bottom feels a bit weird at the moment. Not sure how to describe it exactly, but it just doesn’t feel quite right. My friends who tried the game said the same thing.
Ropes Ropes are kind of unintuitive right now. I get the idea, they’re like checkpoints or safety lines when you reach a new height, but placing them feels inconsistent and a bit too unforgiving. Also, I only later realized you can connect a rope under another one, which is actually really cool. Maybe add a small visual hint showing where ropes can attach when you’re holding one, so it’s easier to understand.
Tree Interaction Being able to saw off smaller branches to make planks directly from the tree would be awesome. Feels like it fits the whole theme, using the tree to beat the tree.
Apples & Economy The apple value jumps (1 -> 10 -> 50) are too steep. The starting backpack size also feels too small, making the early game kind of tedious since you have to go up and down the rope a lot. Would be nicer if apples were worth a bit less but appeared more often, right now they’re a bit too rare overall.
Plank Building Speed Building planks at the start feels really slow. I get that it’s intentional, but I’d suggest at least doubling the starting speed. Once you get a couple of upgrades it feels fine, but early on it just drags.
Expand Plank Scrolling The plank extension via scrolling feels way too slow, and honestly I didn’t even realize it existed for a while. Maybe make it extend more per scroll (like 3× more), or make it “accelerate” when you scroll fast, similar to mouse acceleration. So if someone clearly wants max length, it just speeds up and goes there quickly.
Extra!
Just wanna add, loved seeing you guys at SGC, looking forward to seeing where you take this game, as well as the upcoming CO-OP! Will be hyped and I'll be sure to play it with all my friends :D
Thank you! Not only did you download and play our game, but to also give us this much feedback after your session (and some things are even backed up by a friend as well) is much appreciated <3
Many of your points we agree with, like for example sprinting and different indicators for angle of plank and maybe as you suggested even showing the stability when placing a plank for the player to get an understanding that the mechanic is there in the first place. As it is right now the player is only informed once stability is maxed and they are no longer allowed to place more planks in a chain (unfair to players expectations).
We still have a lot of feedback to go through from SGC but it's stuff like this that gives us that extra push, thanks once again!
